Isn’t Trend Micro there to prevent our computers from malfunctioning?

Well Trend Micro did the exact opposite for me. In fact, all it prevented was me being able to use my brand new laptop for 3 and a half years!

Let me start from the beginning. Don’t worry it’s quite a short story.

Three and a half years ago I bought myself a laptop, along with Trend Micro Anti Virus software, thinking I would just plug it in and off I go.

Well I plugged it in, installed the software, and off I didn’t go. Lucky if I was able to stay connected to the internet for half an hour before I get an annoying ‘no connection, reload’ message.

The amount of times I restarted the laptop and the modem is ridiculous. I couldn’t figure it out.

Eventually it never even gave me the short half hour of internet usage, it just wouldn’t load a page at all. The internet was always connected to it, but I just couldn’t use it.

So I stopped using the laptop altogether.

Until last week, when I decided I would get an IT expert to look at it because I wanted to start my blog and I wanted to use this laptop to do it. Plus what’s the point of having a perfectly new laptop just sitting there doing nothing.

So I took it to my local IT guy and a day later, I had it back working as it should. If only I’d taken it to him sooner!

He told me the Trend Micro antivirus was stopping the internet from operating!

Call me stupid but I thought the antivirus was to keep hackers out, not the owner!

So he removed the software and I was back online!

So in case you ever find yourself in that situation, check if you have Trend Micro installed and un-install it if you know how before paying someone else to do it for you.

If the problem persists, see your IT specialist.
